About the event
In 2020, Natasha Trethewey, Pulitzer Prize-winner and two-term US Poet Laureate, released her long-awaited book Memorial Drive: A Daughter’s Memoir. Memorial Drive is a chillingly personal and exquisitely wrought memoir of a daughter reckoning with the brutal murder of her mother at the hands of her former stepfather. The murder of Ms. Trethewey’s mother, Gwendolyn Ann Turnbough, had another life-altering consequence: it led to the founding of Women’s Resource Center to End Domestic Violence in Decatur. In her first visit to Atlanta since the release of her book, Natasha Trethewey will be the honoree and keynote speaker at the Women’s Resource Center’s upcoming Champions for Change fundraiser on May 5, 2022. The event will host both in-person and virtual guests. In-person tickets to enjoy drinks, appetizers and a live auction, as well as VIP tickets for online viewing, will be available to the public beginning April 5, 2022.
